Digital Desk: Holi, the festival of colours, is upon us. It's a day filled with family, friends, and a lot of fun. It also includes smearing colours on each other, splashing dyed water, and engaging in water balloon fights.
If you spent the past few days attending a number of parties, you are bound to be spotted in a myriad of colours. While you're focusing on finding the ideal outfit, don't overlook the exposed parts of your body. Hair and skincare, before and after the festival, will be of utmost importance.
For the skin
When you return home, take a shower. Avoid using loofahs or any other harsh tools to scrub your skin. Also, avoid having a very hot shower, as it will dry your skin, leaving it itchy and damaged. Apply a gentle scrub to your body.
Post-shower, use a moisturiser all over your body. Taking care of your skin also includes what you put into your body. So, to flush out any toxins, rehydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water and fresh juices.
For those with dry or oily skin, it is best to use rosehip or argan oil in combination with sunscreen on their faces. Rosehip oil is nourishing and can alleviate stress. It promotes the growth of new skin cells, giving you a more youthful look. Rosehip oil contains vitamin F, which helps to lock in moisture and protect skin from damage.
Argan oil is good for boosting the immune system due to its high vitamin E content. It also helps to maintain and restore the health of the skin and the eyes. It also protects against sun damage.
If you are prone to acne or have pimples dotted across your face, acne patches are a fantastic option to cover them and prevent getting them infected. Also, if you had any cuts or wounds before playing Holi, make sure they are cleaned to avoid infection.
For the hair
As soon as you get home, wash the dyes and colours from your hair. However, don't be too rough on your hair. Stand under running water for 10 minutes and let the colours run off from your hair. To wash the hair, use a gentle shampoo. Choose nourishing products that are also soothing to the scalp. Do not be worried if the colour does not fade completely; it may take a few days for the hair to regain its natural shine.
After washing, apply the leave-in cream and hair serum evenly throughout the length of the hair. Moisture retention is very important at this point of time.
Men can apply a hair serum or cream to provide nourishment along with moisture. Additionally, it will lessen the damaging impacts of the colour on the scalp. Use a serum that contains jojoba oil as a main component.
A seemingly random advice is to trim your hair to remove any split ends. This can be done after the festival because it will get rid of any damaged or dry hair. When hair colour adheres to the hair, it tends to dry and damage the hair after it is washed out. Damaged hair can lead to more split ends and additional hair loss at the ends. After the festival, you can get your hair cut to get rid of any split ends and strands that are damaged.
After Holi, pamper yourself with a hair treatment such as a fusio hair scrub, a hair detox cleansing, or even a basic hair spa. This will remove any remaining traces of colour while also providing much-needed moisture and care to the hair.
Types of scrubs to try
Homemade body scrub: Mix together brown sugar, honey, and aloe vera. Exfoliate the body and face gently to remove any colour. You can make this ahead of time and keep it in the fridge.
Hair condition mask: Add 1 tsp of honey and yoghurt and juice of half a lemon in a bowl. Blend and massage the hair. Apply to the hair's lengths. Leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.
