Raksha Bandh an is celebrated every year on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the Shravan month, according to the Hindu calendar. The question of whether to observe Raksha Bandhan on August 30 or August 31 is unclear this year. The question of whether to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on August 30 or August 31 has come up among sisters, who tie a protecting thread (Rakhi) around their brothers' wrists on that day. This confusion is caused by the fact that Bhadra will be present on August 30th, which also happens to be the date of the Shravan month's full moon (Purnima). As a result, it is believed that Raksha Bandhan is most auspicious when it is observed on the Shravan Purnima day, outside of the Bhadra month, and in the afternoon.

The shadow of Bhadra will be around all day on Raksha Bandhan. The Panchang states that the Shravan Shukla Purnima date will begin at 10:59 AM on August 30 and last until 07:05 AM on August 31, the following day. The Bhadra period will start on August 30 and remain until 9:01 PM on the same day, along with the start of the full moon date. Rakhi cannot be tied on August 30 due to Bhadra's presence at that moment. Only when the Bhadra month has passed can rakhi be tied. Some astrology authorities disagree that tying a rakhi at night is fortunate.

Sawan Purnima falls on August 30 this year, beginning at 10:59 AM and lasting till 7:05 AM on August 31. The Bhadrapada month's first day will then start after that. August 30 marks the beginning of the full moon date and the beginning of the Bhadra period, which lasts till 9:01 PM. Rakhi can therefore be tied after the end of the Bhadra month on August 30. On the other hand, some astrologers advise against tying Rakhi at night.
