In order to enjoy life, take a hard look at your pain points. Flip the narrative, and look for the gain in the pain.
Digital Desk: Take the case of time.
Time flies past or slows down to a standstill depending on our state of mind.
When life is filled with a flurry of activities, we feel hard-pressed for time. On the other hand, when life becomes monotonous, time feels like a deadweight that doesn’t seem to move.
This is the most tangible experience of the subjectivity of our experience.
We have the power to alter our experience of everything in life, by just taking charge of our subjective outlook or attitude.
You must have heard of the famous quantum theory of light. Electrons blasted through a screen take on wave or particle reality based on observation.
Or, take any experience of daily life.
If you look at the benefits to be accrued from a painstaking job, the job feels like a blessing not a curse.
What we need to work at is perspective.
Remember the famous poem, ‘Six blind men and the elephant’?
Each thought of the elephant as a different object based on which part of the elephant they happened to touch. The one who touched the tail thought it was like a rope, the one who touched the body thought of it as a wall, and so on and so forth.
So, our experience is a factor of our perception.
In order to enjoy life, take a hard look at your pain points. Flip the narrative, and look for the gain in the pain.
Replace “I have to…” by “I get to…”. Instead of “I have to earn a living” say, “I get to earn a living, be productive and fulfilled.” Instead of “I have to study”, say, “I get to increase my value and mental faculties.”
Re-frame your life in positive light. That is a sure shot way to enjoy your precious time on earth!
