Delhi Excise Policy Scam: SC to hear Manish Sisodia's bail plea in CBI and ED cases
In the CBI and ED cases involving the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, Sisodia had filed a petition with the top court last week asking for bail.

Digital Desk: The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear Manish Sisodia's bail plea in the excise policy scam case being investigated by the CBI and the money laundering matter stemming from it on July 14.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who was representing the former Delhi deputy chief minister, pleaded with the court to take the case up for hearing because his wife was extremely unwell and hospitalised. A panel of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha agreed to hear the case.

Although the subject is scheduled for a hearing on July 17, the bench decided to take it up for the hearing on July 14.

In the CBI and ED cases involving the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, Sisodia had filed a petition with the top court last week asking for bail.

He filed a plea with the Supreme Court in opposition to the two Delhi High Court rulings that denied his bail requests in these instances.

Sisodia was first detained by the CBI on February 26 for his alleged involvement in the "scam," and he has been in detention ever since. Sisodia also held the excise portfolio among many others when serving as Delhi's deputy chief minister.

He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28.

The high court had on 30 May refused him bail in the excise policy scam case under investigation by the CBI, stating that because he had served as both the deputy chief minister and minister of excise, he was a "high-profile" individual with the ability to sway the witnesses.

He was denied bail on July 3 by the high court in a money laundering case involving alleged anomalies in the municipal government's excise policy, stating that the charges against him were "very serious in nature."
