Isro spy case: Ex-cop accused of framing Nambi Narayanan granted anticipatory bail by Kerala HC
A former top police official accused of framing scientist Nambi Narayanan in the Isro spy case has been granted anticipatory bail...

Digital Desk: Sibi Mathews, a former DGP accused of framing scientist Nambi Narayanan in the Isro espionage case, has been granted anticipatory relief by the Kerala High Court.

Other petitioners have also been granted anticipatory bail by the HC. However, because the case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the petitioners will have to appear before the agency for questioning, and if arrested, they would have to be freed on bail.

The news comes only days after the Central Bureau of Investigation informed the Kerala High Court that the espionage accusation against Indian Space Research Organisation scientist Nambi Narayanan in 1994 was fake and that his arrest was illegal.

The court was also told by Nmabi Narayana's lawyer that the case was brought to halt the cryogenic engine, which was critical to India's space exploration effort.

This remark was made while the Kerala High Court was hearing the CBI's case against the officials who investigated Nambi Narayanan in the 1990s.

The CBI made this remark when the court was deliberating on the accused officers' bail request.

The Isro spy case was a now-disproven infiltration charge made by Indian investigation agencies against several workers of the Indian Space Research Organisation in the 1990s (Isro). These employees were arrested by various Indian intelligence agencies and the Kerala police on suspicion of attempting to sell classified papers comprising indigenous rocket engine designs developed by Isro.
