Digital Desk: The daughter of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Suchetana Bhattacharya, has made the decision to have a sex change operation and become "Suchetan." She started seeking legal counsel and has visited psychiatrists in order to obtain all of the necessary certificates for the surgery.
Suchetana, who recently attended an LGBTQ workshop, stated that she identified as a man and would like to be one physically as well.
"My parental identity or family identity is not a big deal. This is part of my LGBTQ movement. I want to put an end to the harassment that I encounter on a daily basis as a transgender man," she said.
"I am an adult. I'm 41 now. I am able to take all decisions related to my life. In the same manner, I'm making this choice. Don't involve my parents in this, please. Anyone who considers himself a man mentally is a man, just as I consider myself a man mentally. I want it to be physical now," she added.
Suchetana believes her father will support her decision because he has been aware of it since she was a child.
"I've decided to do this. I'll fight back. I have that courage. I don't care who says what. I'm prepared to respond to everyone's inquiries," Suchetana stated.
Suchetana also asked the media not to misinterpret the news.
"This is my one and only decision. I will ask to everyone to refrain from distorting the news. This is my own fight. I want to take this on by myself. It is preferable to be late than never. I've had this inclination since I was just a kid. Many people were in favour of it, and many were against it. Mentally, I am a trans-man, and physically, I want to be the same," she said.
She also urged the LGBTQ community to stay brave. "I shall ask everyone to be brave. Perhaps there will be some contention over my name and my parents. But please understand, I'll say again and again. Everyone must."
