Digital Desk: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Sunday urged homeowners to register their dogs in light of the increased number of dog-bite occurrences in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and issued a warning for noncompliance.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation Act requires the registration of pet dogs with the civic body, according to senior officials of the MCD's veterinary division, but "people have remained reluctant to come forward to get their pets registered."
"The MCD encourages individuals to register their pet dogs due to an increase in dog-bite incidents. All pets must be registered with the municipal corporation under section 399 of the Delhi Municipal Act of 1957. According to a statement from the civic body, if a pet dog is not registered with the local body, the clause also provides the MCD the authority to hold the dog if it is discovered in a public area.
Additionally, it stated, ththat ere is a clause that allows for fines and even legal action against pet owners.
"We urge residents to register their pet dogs as soon as possible so that appropriate DMC Act action can be done if necessary. Even people who have taken in stray dogs as pets are subject to the regulation," it added.

As per the statement, the exercise's goals are to create a database of pet dog owners, stop unlawful activities like unregistered dog breeding, and keep track of the vaccination schedules for animals.
"MCD is offering a convenient and hassle-free online facility for dog registration in order to assist pet owners. The anti-rabies vaccination certificate, a picture of the animal, evidence of residency, and identification documentation for the owner are among the documents that must be submitted, according to the MCD.
