Digital Desk: Around 8.52 lakh voters in the northeastern state of Mizoram will cast their votes in 40 Assembly seats for the Mizoram Assembly on Tuesday, November 7, which will decide the fate of 174 candidates from various parties.
In the state, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), the BJP, and the Congress are vying for power while the Mizo National Front (MNF) is trying to hold onto it. Along with the results of the elections in the other four states later this month, the Assembly results will be announced on December 3.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer H Lianzela stated that during the month-long campaign phase for the November 7 Mizoram assembly elections, there had been no complaints of any disruptions to peace and order.
Voter and booth numbers
There will be 8,52,088 voters in 1,276 voting places, 4,13,064 men and 4,39,028 females, according to the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Mizoram. There are 8,490 senior persons over the age of 80, while 50,611 electors in the 18–19 age bracket will be exercising their right to vote for the first time.
Security implementation
To ensure free and fair elections, the Election Commission has stationed over 50 CAPF companies around the state. Thirty voting places around the state have been designated as important polling places by the ECI. There will be close to 5000 personnel working at the voting places.
The 24 Thelep polling stations within the 34 no. Thorang (ST) Assembly seat has just 26 voters. On the other side, 24 Zemabawk VIII polling places within the 13 no. A maximum of 1481 voters are at 24 Zemabawk VIII polling stations under 13 no. Aizawl East I (Gen) Assembly constituency.
The Thorang Assembly constituency has the fewest voters—14,924—while the Tuichawng Assembly constituency has the most voters—36,041—according to the ECI.
Polling stations
On November 5, poll workers were assigned to their respective booths. The Lawngtlai District comprises 181 polling stations, of which 70 are located in 36-Tuichawng AC, 69 in 37-Lawngtlai West AC, and 42 in 38-Lawngtlai East AC. Today, the 95 polling stations that still have polling officials assigned to them will get their dispatch.
In an effort to support free and fair elections, the last randomization of polling places took place on Sunday. Through the use of computer software, the polling parties for each of the 27 polling stations in the South Tuipui Assembly Constituency were allocated to their appropriate places of duty.
The Mizo National Front won 26 seats in the 40-member Mizoram assembly, with a vote share of 37.8%, to win the 2018 Assembly polls. The BJP won one seat and the Congress won five.
