Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed his satisfaction with the enthusiastic turnout and emphasised that these initiatives align with the government's broader vision for the state. The monumental New Shillong Water Supply Project, costing Rs. 1600 crore, is a flagship state-funded venture. Sangma highlighted its historical significance, stating it's the largest project undertaken in Meghalaya, with an allocated budget of 1,600 crores, of which nearly 500 crores have been released for the initial phase.

The New Shillong Water Supply Scheme aims to meet the water requirements of Shillong and New Shillong Township, accommodating institutions, offices, and 32 villages. Anticipating future growth, the project foresees serving a population projected to reach 198,997 by 2042 and an ultimate 2057 population of 413,701.

Addressing the road infrastructure, Sangma revealed the ongoing development of internal roads in the New Shillong Township, including Ummir to Mawkhanu, Kynoton to Lyngkien, Bellefonte to the new township, Diengpasoh road to Shillong bypass, and Bribah Mawpat to the new township. Phase 2 proposes 16.6 km of roads, expected to be completed by the end of 2026 at a cost of 185 crore.

On the land reclamation project at the Waste Processing and Disposal Site in Marten, Mawlai, Sangma emphasised the transformation of accumulated waste into usable and recyclable products, expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months.

The Chief Minister also disclosed the central government's support, with an additional grant of Rs. 500 crore for Meghalaya's New Shillong Township, aligned with the ambitious vision to achieve a 10 billion US dollar economy and increase per capita income.
