Digital Desk: In a significant political development, former All Assam Students' Union (AASU) president Dipanka Nath, former Assam Minister Bismita Gogoi, and expelled Youth Congress leader Angkita Dutta all joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday evening.

The three leaders, out of 150 members from the Congress and AASU, confirmed rumors that they were joining the ruling BJP by joining the party at the BJP headquarters in Basistha, Guwahati. Bhabesh Kalita, the state president of the BJP, Assam Ministers Pijush Hazarika and Jayanta Mallabaruah, BJP MLA Diganta Kalita, and other BJP members were also present.

Pijush Hazarika poked fun at the "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," which was headed by Rahul Gandhi and had a major impact on the state.

Taking to X, Hazarika stated, “I have to admit Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Bus Nyay Yatra has created a huge impact in Assam. Over 150 leaders from Congress and AASU are joining the BJP today. Good decision by Angkita Dutta, Bismita Gogoi, Dipanka Nath, and others.”

Joining the BJP, Bismita stated, “Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has changed the overall environment of Assam. I was upset with the mindset of the current Congress leadership. The Congress will not come to power even in 100 years.”

Bismita further alleged that women are not safe in the Congress party stating, “The leaders stoop to so low as discussing what kind of blouse I am wearing and we were suffering from mental harassment in the party.”

Speaking on Bhupen Borah suggesting she take responsibility, Bismita stated, “I was kept away from important discussions of the party.”
