Assam: 48-hour transport strike reduced to 24 hours, vehicles to operate from tomorrow morning

The decision was made following discussions between the state transportation department and the leaders of the Assam Motor Worker Association today.

Digital Desk: The 48-hour strike called by owners of commercial vehicles across the state has been reduced to a 24-hour strike. In light of this, commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and others, are scheduled to begin operating tomorrow at 5 am.

The decision was made following discussions between the state transportation department and the leaders of the Assam Motor Worker Association today. The decision to shorten the 48-hour strike to a 24-hour walkout was made, according to sources, after a five-hour conversation between leaders of the motor workers' association and the transport department authorities.

The association decided to cut down the strike by 24 hours because the law had not yet been put into effect. The Motor Workers Association was assured by the Transport Department that the government will take action in this area.

Office workers found it extremely difficult to get to work during the strike since buses, taxis, and app-based taxis stopped operating in support of the walkout. People have a great deal of trouble getting around throughout the day, especially in Guwahati's larger cities.

People waited in huge lines at petrol pumps yesterday in cities in Assam to fill up their tanks because to concerns of a shortage of fuel.

Following the proposal to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), there is a strike. Drivers who cause catastrophic accidents on the road out of negligence and do not report the occurrence to the authorities face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of Rs 7 lakh under the new law.
