    Assam: Man sentenced to 25 years in prison for forcibly marrying minor

    color:#2E2E2E">Digital Desk: color:black">A special court in Hailakandi condemned a man to 25 years in
    prison for allegedly forcing a teenage girl to marry him.



    color:black">According to sources, in January of last year, the accused, named
    as Bijoy Bin, abducted and forcibly married a 13-year-old girl.



    color:black">According to the police, a case was filed against him on January
    18, 2022 under section 366 of the Indian Penal Code under case number 11/2022.



    color:black">The man was detained under Section 9 of the Child Marriage
    Prohibition Act and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual
    Offences (POCSO) Act. After serving five months and thirteen days in prison,
    the accused was granted bail.



    color:black">Considering the victim family's appeal, the court decided to hear
    the case on a fast-track basis. According to Section 4 of the POCSO Act,
    special judge Sanjoy Hazarika sentenced Bijoy to 20 years in prison. He was
    also sentenced to five years in prison, for a total of 25 years in prison.



    color:black">Furthermore, the court has ordered him to pay Rs 10,000 for each
    case.
