    Digital Desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has brightened the festive season for state government employees with a generous Diwali gift. In a significant announcement made on November 7, Sarma declared a 4 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for the state's workforce, effective from December 1, 2023. This heartening decision is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to thousands of government employees across Assam.


    With this latest increase, the total DA for state government employees in Assam will rise to an impressive 46 percent, marking a substantial boost in their financial well-being. Additionally, the state government has ensured that arrear DA payments for the period from July 2023 to November 2023 will be provided, further alleviating the economic burden on employees.


    In its weekly meeting, the Assam Cabinet unveiled a series of progressive decisions aimed at enhancing the welfare of the state's citizens and fortifying various sectors. These measures encompassed not only the DA hike but also several other crucial initiatives.

    For the benefit of school children in Char and Chapori areas, the Assam Cabinet approved the provision of three eggs per week in the Midday Meal scheme, commencing from December 1, 2023. This endeavor is intended to combat malnutrition and promote healthy growth by providing a valuable source of protein, vitamins, and minerals to eligible children.


    On the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day, the Cabinet allocated a substantial sum of Rs 135 crore for the construction of ten state-of-the-art Cancer Care Hospitals. This initiative, divided into three hospitals in the first phase and seven in the second, is a remarkable step forward in the state's efforts to provide comprehensive cancer care and generate employment opportunities for around 8,000 individuals.


    In a bid to ensure the availability of essential drugs in government hospitals, the Assam Cabinet released Rs 135 crore under the Free Drugs Scheme. This program is designed to offer vital pharmaceuticals, surgical items, consumables, and linens at no cost to patients, strengthening healthcare support for those in need.


    The decision to increase the DA for state government employees, coupled with the various other welfare measures, underscores the Assam government's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens and bolstering the state's development. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's announcement has been met with widespread appreciation and is expected to bring cheer and relief to government employees during the festive season and beyond.
