    Emergency shutdown at Manipur; 3 student leaders arrested

    Imphal: An emergency total shutdown was imposed across all hill districts in Manipur on Tuesday from 10:00 am by The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), along with the Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) and the All Naga Students’ Association of Manipur (ANSAM).

    The shutdown was announced after three ATSUM leaders were arrested from their respective homes by the Manipur Police late on Monday evening who were part of agitation by the student body over delay of Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections in Manipur, a statement issued by KSO Churachandpur said.

    The student leaders arrested by the police have been identified as ATSUM’s rights & information secretary Shimthar Jajo, information secretary Khaiminlen Doungel and finance secretary Kakai Singsit.





    Of the three student leaders, one was arrested from Motbung and the others were arrested from Imphal.

    “The bandh will be fully supported by the KSO Churachandpur and other student bodies of Churachandpur district.” said the statement.





    “The shutdown will be strictly enforced, except media and medical emergencies,” added the statement.
