    Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi to get honorary 'Doctor of Laws' degree at Panjab University

    Digital Desk: Ranjan Gogoi, former Chief Justice of India (CJI), will be awarded an Honorary Degree ‘Doctor of Laws’ by the Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh’s Syndicate on May 20. The decision was taken on the recommendation of a High Powered Committee comprising Vice Chancellors (VCs) and Chancellors (Chancellors) of various Universities.


    It is to be mentioned that, Vice-President of India (VPI), Jagdeep Dhankhar, will deliver the award to Gogoi on the 70th annual Convocation of the University. Gogoi has distinguished himself in various capacities in the past and the present and has made significant contributions to society.


    Rajan Gogoi is one of the names approved for an honorary degree by the prestigious PU syndicate. Others are former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, President of Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murthy, and Virologist Dr. Gagandeep Kannan. 


    About 500 toppers of graduation and master's courses will receive gold medals. Research scholars from science, pharmacy science, art, education, language, law, engineering & technology, business management & commerce, and design & fine arts, among others, and topper students from undergraduate and postgraduate courses will also receive gold medals.
