Digital Desk: In a blow to the Congress party, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee's (APCC) General Secretary, Kamrul Islam Choudhury, resigned from the party's primary membership on Sunday.

In a letter to Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi shared on social media, Choudhury said that he resigned due to the "directionless and confused leadership of APCC during the last few months."

"Heartfelt thanks to you and INC leadership for giving me the chance to represent INC at different positions i.e., National General Secretary of NSUI, President APYC and General Secretary APCC. But the present instability of Congress party in Assam due to the directionless and confused leadership of APCC during the last few months has left no reason for me to continue as a member of INC," Choudhury stated in his letter.

The political leader further claimed that no action was taken against the party MLA who cross-voted in the recently held presidential election, claiming that this had "demoralized thousands of grassroots workers like me who have sacrificed blood and sweat for the party for years."

"Therefore, I do hereby tender my resignation from the post of General Secretary, APCC, and primary membership of INC," he said.

Choudhury's resignation comes just days after veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from the party on August 26, accusing Rahul Gandhi's "immaturity" of "demolishing the consultative system" in the party.
