Digital Desk: In a major setback for Team India, ace speedster Mohammed Shami is set to miss the upcoming Test series against South Africa due to an ongoing ankle injury sustained during the 2023 World Cup. According to reports from Cricbuzz, Shami's recovery has not progressed sufficiently, leading to doubts about his availability for the two-match series against the rainbow nation.

It has been disclosed that Shami is unlikely to join the Indian contingent, captained by Rohit Sharma, departing for South Africa on Friday. The traveling squad includes key players such as Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, and Harshit Rana, who will transit via Dubai.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet officially named Shami's replacement. However, speculation suggests that one of the pacers from India's white-ball squad could step in for the Test series.

Shami's absence is a significant blow for India, given his impressive track record against the host nation on African soil, where he has claimed 35 wickets in eight Tests at a remarkable strike rate of 44.66. In his stead, emerging pacer Prasidh Krishna is seen as the leading candidate for the third seamer's role.
