Digital Desk: Virat Kohli on Wednesday broke the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries as he smashed a ton during India’s 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Kohli now has 50 ODI hundreds, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 centuries in this format.
Kohli currently holds the record for most runs scored by a batsman in an ODI World Cup, with 711 runs. Tendulkar's record of 673 runs, set in the 2003 tournament, was surpassed by him.
Following Rohit Sharma's wicket, Kohli entered the field for the ninth over. After hitting four fours in 59 deliveries, Kohli reached his half-century. Before Shubman Gill withdrew injured, the former captain of India had a 93-run partnership for the second wicket.
After that, Virat and Shreyas Iyer had a 163-run partnership for the second wicket till he was dismissed for 117.
