First Kazakh player to win singles Grand Slam title at Wimbledon 2022: Elena Rybakina beats Ons Jabeur

The first Kazakh player to win a singles major championship is Rybakina. The contest ended up being a titanic struggle that continued into the third set.

Digital Desk: Elena Rybakina, a Russian-born Kazak player, won her first Grand Slam title on Saturday when she defeated Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in a thrilling women's singles match at Wimbledon (July 9).

Rybakina won the three-set thriller 3-6,6-2, 6-2 to become the world's oldest Grand Slam champion in its centennial year.

Rybakina has become the first Kazakh tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles title due to her accomplishment. Before Saturday, no Kazakhstani men's or women's singles player had won a major title in the singles category. Rybakina dropped just two sets in the competition on her way to a stunning victory.

The match, which went down to the wire, lasted about two hours and featured some engrossing action between players on the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club's iconic center court in SW19.

Jabeur set the tone for the match by breaking Rybakina's serve in the third game. She took advantage of the early momentum to win the first set 6-3. Rybakina recovered quickly from the early setback, launching the second set with a bang, breaking in the first game. In the second set, the Kazakh star broke her serve once more to comfortably level the game and send the summit clash to a decider.

The third set followed a similar pattern, with the 23-year-old breaking her opponent's serve twice to win 6-2 and claim her first Grand Slam singles title.

Despite her defeat, Jabeur made history with her record-breaking run, becoming the first Arab and African woman to reach the finals of a Grand Slam.

"I can't say anything. "It's an honor to be here in this incredible atmosphere. The audience was incredible, and I want to congratulate Ons; you are an inspiration. It was a pleasure to play against you. Being a winner is incredible. Of course, I wouldn't be here without my team, so I'd like to express my gratitude to them. "And, most importantly, my parents," Rybakina said after winning her first Grand Slam.
