competition in Los Angeles, Indian runner Parul Chaudhary broke the previous
record, becoming the first competitor from India to complete the women's 3000m
course in under nine minutes. The 27-year-old Chaudhary finished third on
Saturday night after covering the distance in 8:57.19. With her most recent
effort, steeplechase specialist Chaudhary beat Suriya Loganathan's mark of
9:04.5s, which she set in New Delhi six years ago.
In the race, Chaudhary was running in fifth place, but then
she gained ground in the final two laps
Additionally, Chaudhary will be competing for India at the
World Championships, which will begin later this month in Oregon, USA. She'll
be taking part in the 3000 m steeplechase for ladies.
At the championships held in Chennai last month, she had won
the gold in the women's 3000m steeplechase.
