Digital Desk: According to Airport Director VK Seth, 125 passengers boarding an international chartered flight from Italy to Amritsar tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival at the Amritsar airport.
Onboard the Italy-Amritsar aircraft YU-661, 179 passengers arrived at the Amritsar airport at 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, out of which 125 passengers tested positive for the virus.
Officials further reported that 19 toddlers or children among the flight's passengers were excused from RT-PCR testing upon arrival.
This comes amid an alarming rise in new coronavirus infections across the country. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), 90,928 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in India in the last 24 hours.
India on Thursday saw the biggest single-day jump of 495 Omicron cases, taking the total number of infections of the new variant of coronavirus to 2,630. Of the total cases, Maharashtra has the maximum at 797. In addition, the country reported 90,928 fresh coronavirus infections, the highest in over 200 days, that pushed its caseload to 3,51,09,286.
