Digital Desk: Amid the ongoing evacuation of Indian students from war-torn Ukraine, the Indian government has stated that private medical colleges will be required to supply 50% of their seats at government medical college costs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Monday to say that the move to charge 50% of seats in private medical colleges at the same level as government medical colleges will benefit the poor and middle class. "A few days ago, the government took an important decision, which will benefit the poor and middle-class children," Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated. "We have decided that half of the seats in Pvt medical colleges will be charged at the same rate as seats in government medical colleges." PM Modi added. A few days ago, the National Medical Commission (NMC) published an office memorandum announcing a decision to charge 50% of private colleges and deemed university seats the same as government medical college seats. It was also announced that it would come into effect by the start of the next academic session. According to official sources, the National Medical Commission (NMC) rules stipulate that the fees for 50% of seats in Pvt medical colleges and deemed universities shall be on par with those of government medical colleges in a particular state starting from the next academic session. The source added that each state's fee fixation body would have to apply the rules for their medical colleges.
