Digital Desk: A division bench of the Karnataka High Court has directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) to appoint a committee to investigate the problem of potholes on city roads and submit a report. Following the hearing of public interest litigation, the division bench further directed the BBMP to establish ward-wise reporting centers in Bengaluru to handle complaints.
"City roads are full of potholes. People are suffering from the problem of standing water on the roads. Have you started a complaint resolution center for this? " Justice Vishwajit Shetty questioned BBMP.
The Karnataka High Court has ordered the civic body in Bengaluru to form a panel and submit a report on potholes.
In answer to the High Court, V Srinidhi, a lawyer for the BBMP, claimed that the staff members of the organization were busy and that flooding on the roadways was the result of heavy rainfall. The court ordered civic organizations to address the problems impacting citizens.
Meanwhile, when directing the BBMP to establish the committee, the court stated that the panel must include engineers. Early in July, heavy rains in Karnataka resulted in major flooding, prompting the execution of rescue operations and relief measures.
The chief minister, Basavraj Bommai, also asked for funds from the federal government. Bengaluru is experiencing severe water logging due to the persistent, heavy rains that continue to obstruct traffic in numerous areas of the city.
Many areas of the state are facing flooding-like conditions as a result of the heavy rainfall. Residents of Bengaluru continue to experience the worst of severe waterlogging as many areas of the city are underwater.
