Digital Desk: In a blatant act of defiance against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's ongoing crusade against polygamy, a man was apprehended in Sarthebari after his attempt to secretly marry for a second time was foiled.
The groom, identified as Makbul Ali from Lashima village in Nalbari, allegedly deceived a family in Satla village, Barpeta, by concealing his existing marriage and the fact that he is already a father.
The bride's family, completely unaware of Ali's background, had consented to the marriage and finalised the wedding arrangements.
However, the deception unraveled on the wedding night when the truth about Ali's first wife and child was suddenly revealed.
The discovery sparked immediate outrage, leading the bride's family to detain the entire groom's party as tensions escalated throughout Satla village.
Sarthebari police arrived at the scene to restore order and took Makbul Ali into custody.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting a daring attempt to bypass the law shortly after the state government's stern warnings and legal actions against multiple marriages.
