Digital Desk: A devastating train accident has occurred in Thailand after a crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train, killing at least 22 people. The tragic incident took place in the early hours of the day, plunging the country into mourning.

As per reports, the passenger train was travelling from Thailand’s capital toward the northeastern region of the country. At around 9 am, a crane being used for construction work near the railway tracks in Sikhio district toppled onto the train, causing it to derail.

Following the derailment, a fire broke out in the train, worsening the situation. Local police and rescue teams immediately rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Authorities confirmed that the fire has been brought under control and rescue efforts are continuing.

More than 30 passengers were injured in the accident, while several others were trapped inside the damaged coaches. Rescue teams were forced to cut through the train compartments to evacuate the injured and those trapped inside.

Officials said that approximately 195 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident. The Thai government has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the crane collapse and assess accountability.

In an official statement, Thai police confirmed that 22 people have lost their lives in the accident. A total of 79 people were injured, of whom eight remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals.

The incident has raised serious concerns about construction safety near railway lines and has prompted calls for stricter safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
