Digital Desk: The Dibrugarh Airport achieved a significant operational milestone today with the commissioning of its extended runway and the introduction of several advanced navigational systems.
The upgraded infrastructure was inaugurated with the successful landing of an IndiGo flight (6E 893) from Kolkata to Dibrugarh at 08:38 AM, making it the first aircraft to land on the newly extended 2,291-metre runway.
As part of the upgrade, the runway length has been increased from 1,830 metres to 2,291 metres. The airport has also been equipped with a CAT-I approach lighting system spanning 900 metres, along with runway edge lighting, threshold and end lighting, and runway guard lights. Additionally, advanced navigation and safety systems, including DVOR and HP-DME, a Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), and an Automatic Weather Observation System (AWOS), have been installed.
Airport Director Bangajit Saha подчеркнул the importance of the development, stating that the enhanced infrastructure will strengthen Dibrugarh’s position as a key aviation hub for Upper Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
The extended runway and CAT-I systems are expected to significantly reduce flight disruptions during adverse weather conditions, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons. The upgrade is also likely to boost regional connectivity, tourism, and overall economic growth.
To mark the occasion, the Airports Authority of India at Dibrugarh Airport felicitated the pilot and first officer of the inaugural flight.
