Digital Desk: Today, in a major breakthrough, Basistha Police in Guwahati busted an alleged “Irani gang” within 24 hours of a reported chain-snatching incident.

The incident took place in Saukuchi, where two miscreants on a motorcycle snatched a gold chain from a woman while she was on her way to the market. Following the incident, the victim lodged a complaint with the police.

Acting swiftly, Basistha Police tracked down and arrested the accused within 24 hours. Investigations revealed that the gang had come from Bihar and was involved in multiple criminal activities across different parts of the city.

According to police sources, the gang would first monitor the movements of pedestrians before executing robberies using motorcycles. In an attempt to evade identification, they smeared mud on the number plates of their bikes.

Police also arrested a buyer of the stolen gold and a goldsmith who allegedly helped destroy evidence related to the stolen items.
