He added that as a mark of appreciation, the state government will give people Rs 100 for planting a tree and an additional Rs 200 if it survived for three years.


Digital Desk: On Thursday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma decided to plant 1 crore saplings in honour of Gandhi Jayanti to increase Assam's green cover and boost the tree economy.

"On October 2 from 9 am to 11 am, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we will plant 1 crore saplings simultaneously throughout the state," Chief Minister Sarma said.

He added that as a mark of appreciation, the state government will give people Rs 100 for planting a tree and an additional Rs 200 if it survived for three years.

"If we will succeed this year, we'll plant 1 billion saplings on October 2 of the next year (2024),” he added.

Along with CM Sarma, other participants in the Amit Plantation project in Chandubi in the Kamrup district included Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, State Ministers, Cabinet Colleagues, and MLAs from both the ruling and opposition parties.
