Workers from the district administration were observed barricading the dug-out hole created by JICA...

Digital Desk: Following the terrible death of a schoolgirl in Guwahati on Thursday morning, the Kamrup Metro District Administration has finally awoken from its slumber and arrived at the accident site to barricade the dug-out hole on the pathway, which many think was a major contributor to the disaster.

Workers from the district administration were observed barricading the dug-out hole created by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the installation of a water pipeline.

There was no barricade surrounding the hole at the time of the collision, adding to the already congested route. Furious locals blamed the tragedy on the availability of a dug-up pathway in the area.

The event occurred as the girl was walking to school with her older sister. According to sources, a speeding school bus crashed with the scooter they were riding in before fleeing the scene.

While the minor girl was killed on the scene, her sibling was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Priya Kumari, a class 11 student of Little Flower School in the city's Hatigaon district, has been identified as the deceased student.

Following the incident, Basistha police seized the school bus and arrested both the driver and the handyman. Bipul Boro has been identified as the bus driver. The school bus with the registration number 'AS-01-PC-7411' is registered under the name of Royal Global School in Lokhra.
