Digital Desk: Guwahati, September 15 – The Chief Minister’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell on Monday launched a high-profile raid at the residence of Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora, currently posted as the Circle Officer of Goroimari in Kamrup district. The raid was launched following serious allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
The early morning raid took place at Shine Shanti Greeno Apartments in Gotanagar, Guwahati. During the search operation, authorities allegedly found about Rs 1.7 crore of unaccounted cash from the fifth-floor apartment. Currency counting machines and staff from SBI were called in to assist in counting the massive stacks of notes.
Bora, who has only six years of government service, is alleged to have accumulated significant wealth, raising red flags over suspected corruption and misuse of public office .It is said that her property holdings might constitute a mountain of property, far beyond what her income permits.
The Vigilance Cell subsequently confirmed the arrest of Nupur Bora in relation to the ensuing investigation. Along with cash, several documents related to property ownership were also seized from the premises.
In a related development, another raid is underway at the residence of Surajit Deka, a land mandal formerly posted in Barpeta, who is also facing allegations of large-scale corruption during his tenure.
In reaction to the developments, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his government is determined to put a stop on corruption and ensure transparency in government administration.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests and seizures may follow in the coming days.
