The flood situation in Kaziranga remains critical, with 173 forest camps still submerged. Across Assam, the floods have led to 46 fatalities, including eight reported on Wednesday alone. 

Digital Desk: Seventeen wild animals, including a rhino calf and several hog deer, tragically drowned in Kaziranga National Park amidst severe flooding. According to park officials, forest authorities have successfully rescued 72 animals so far during the ongoing crisis.

Sonali Ghosh, the Field Director, stated that park authorities, in collaboration with the forest department, have saved a diverse range of wildlife. These include 55 hog deer, two otter infants, two sambar deer, two scops owls, one rhino calf, one Indian hare, and one jungle cat. Currently, 32 of the rescued animals are undergoing treatment, while 25 have been released back into their natural habitat.

Over 1.625 million people in 29 districts are affected by this second wave of flooding, with districts such as Goalpara, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, and Sonitpur severely impacted.

More than 386,000 individuals are taking shelter in 515 relief camps and distribution centers established across 24 affected districts by the administration. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has reported that over 1.12 million animals have also been affected by the floods.

Rescue operations are underway with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, local administration, Indian Army, and paramilitary forces actively involved. On Wednesday, these teams successfully rescued 8,377 individuals from the flood-affected areas.
