The incident unfolded when Priyanka Tamuli Phukan, a teacher at Cotton collegiate government h.s. school allegedly hit Bhargab with her i20 vehicle (registration number AS01BY0044) and fled the scene.
Reports indicate that efforts were made to hide the incident, leading to widespread discussions on social media platforms, particularly Facebook. Following days of public outcry, Priyanka Tamuli Phukan has been apprehended by police.
Bhargab, a newlywed from Sarupeta, tragically lost his life on the spot during the accident, which occurred near Dighalipukhuri on Saturday. The vehicle involved has been confiscated by Panbazar police, who have filed case number 155/24 under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304A (causing death by negligence), and 427 (mischief causing property damage) of the Indian Penal Code.
