Digital Desk: As of Friday, 2,044 people had been detained in connection with cases involving child marriages in Assam.

The Director General of Police (DGP), G. P. Singh, informed the public of this.

The chief minister was informed that child marriage was widespread in numerous areas of the state, and as a result he launched an investigation, the senior cop told reporters. In accordance with the directive, three years' worth of data on child marriage instances were obtained.

According to the data, he continued, "Over 4,000 cases were registered. 2,044 people had been detained as of Friday at 2 p.m. in connection with cases of child marriages throughout the state. Additionally, 52 Qazis (Islamic priests) have been detained by our soldiers for performing child marriages.
