Digital Desk: Authorities said that 33 people were hurt and at least 22 people died in an automobile accident on Tuesday close to the Minya province in southern Egypt.

According to a statement from the local government in Minya, the accident happened early one morning when a passenger bus collided with a stopped truck on a route connecting Cairo, the nation's capital, and the south.

When the injured needed to be sent to Minya hospitals, ambulances sped to the scene.

Egypt, which has a dismal track record for transportation safety, has thousands of fatal traffic accidents every year. Speeding, poor road conditions or lax traffic enforcement are the main causes of collisions.
