44-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in Assam's Sonitpur district for the
murder and attempted rape of a 14-year-old minor.
According to
sources, the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Hazarat Ali, a
resident of Bhakuamari village in the district's Dhekiajuli police station, has
been arrested.
During the
interrogation, Ali confessed to killing the minor girl at her home, according
to the official.
"He went
to the victim girl's house while she was sleeping on Tuesday morning." He
entered the house and attempted to rape her while the other family members were
not present, according to the official statement.
"When the
victim awoke and began screaming, the accused strangled her to death out of
fear." "After committing the crime, he fled from the victim's home,"
the official added.
Meanwhile, the
deceased's body has been sent to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital for a
post-mortem examination.
A case,
however, has been filed at the Dhekiajuli police station. Further investigation
is underway.
