This surge in voter registration reflects a growing engagement among the youth...

Digital Desk: Assam's electoral landscape has experienced a significant transformation with the addition of 7,26,783 new voters to its electoral roll. This surge marks a substantial demographic shift, particularly with 4.5 lakh individuals falling within the crucial 18-29 age group, signaling a dynamic shift in the state's political dynamics.

According to Anurag Goel, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam, the state's total electorate now stands at 2,43,01,960, with 1,21,79,538 male and 1,21,22,602 female voters. This surge in voter registration reflects a growing engagement among the youth, potentially reshaping the political discourse in Assam.

However, amidst the influx of new voters, 7,27,291 names were removed from the electoral roll, primarily due to deaths and other reasons. The State Election Commission diligently carried out the revision process, ensuring accuracy and transparency in the electoral system.

To rectify any discrepancies, Goel emphasized the importance of citizens verifying their status on the electoral roll through Form 6, available both online and offline. This proactive approach ensures that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

A breakdown of the final photo electoral roll reveals intriguing insights into Assam's electoral dynamics. For instance, the Amri Assembly constituency boasts the lowest number of electors at 96,542, while the Dalgaon constituency leads with the highest at 2,97,846. Similarly, the Diphu Parliamentary Constituency features the lowest count of 8,92,789 electors, while the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat claims the highest with a staggering 26,43,403 electors.

The surge in voter enrollment underscores the vibrancy of democracy in Assam and heralds a new era of political participation and representation, particularly among its youthful populace.
