The officer in charge of the fire fighting office in Bihta, Patna, Vikash Kumar, stated that there were 20 labourers on the boat and that the sand was being unloaded at the location.

Digital Desk: As many as five labourers were killed after a fire broke out in their boat at Rampur Diyara ghat in Patna.

"It has been reported that there was a cylinder explosion, but that is untrue. A fire started because they were cooking next to several diesel canisters. They have not yet been recognized, "the Bihar police said.

According to the report, the explosion happened in the middle of the lake while the food was being cooked and some unlawful sand was being moved from one end to the other by boat.

Soon after learning about the explosion and the five fatalities, the Maner Police Station Officer, Maner Block Development Officer (BDO), and Firefighting Officer arrived at the scene.

It is to be noted that the identification of the deceased is yet to be determined and further investigation is underway.
