The latest update highlights that floods have affected 2,580 villages across 86 revenue circles in 27 districts of Assam.
Digital Desk: In the past 24 hours, floods in Assam have claimed the lives of at least five individuals, including that of a child, bringing the total death toll to 84, according to information released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority on Wednesday. Among the reported deaths, one occurred in Dhubri due to drowning unrelated to the floods, while the remaining four fatalities in Dibrugarh, South Salmara, Dhemaji, and Cachar were directly attributed to the floodwaters.
The report indicates that currently, no river is flowing above its highest flood level, suggesting a partial decrease in water levels. However, the Brahmaputra River at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dhubri, as well as the Burhidihing River at Chenimari, Disang River at Nanglamuraghat, and Kushiyara River at Karimganj, continue to flow above the danger mark.

Furthermore, approximately 39,898.92 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged, resulting in significant crop losses. Currently, 45,620 people, including 10,928 children, are sheltered in 209 relief camps statewide due to the flood impact.
Additionally, floods have caused erosion in two districts of Assam, namely Udalguri and Tinsukia. Fortunately, there were no reports of fatalities due to erosion in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Kaziranga National Park authorities have reported a rise in animal casualties due to the severe flooding, with 163 animals confirmed dead and another 135 rescued thus far.
