Six victims of the incident were transported by the police to Hailakandi Civil Hospital, where four of them were pronounced dead by medical staff.

Digital Desk: Four people, including a 4-year-old child, were tragically electrocuted on Sunday night in the Hailakandi area of Assam.

Police said that the little victim first touched a live electrical wire that had fallen to the ground. In their haste to save the youngster, the child's parents and neighbours were electrocuted as well.

"The child was playing with chicks at 6 o'clock when he unintentionally touched the wire. In their haste to save him, his parents and a couple of his neighbours also fell unconscious from shock. The line was quickly removed after we notified the electrical department, according to a local homeowner.

According to the residents, a large branch of a tree fell on an electric line as a result of bad weather, and a live wire fell to the ground.

Six victims of the incident were transported by the police to Hailakandi Civil Hospital, where four of them were pronounced dead by medical staff.

Two of the injured are still receiving care, according to Chinglen Singha of the Bilaipur police outpost, while the corpses of the deceased have been submitted for a postmortem.

Locals claim that the toddler touched a live electric line, but we must conduct a postmortem to verify this. We'll learn more from those two who are currently receiving therapy," Singha added.

The deceased have been named as Sufiyan Ahmed Sheikh (40), Husnara Begum Sheikh (30), Jahid Hussain Sheikh (23) and a 4-year-old child.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti of Hailakandi urged that the families receive proper compensation.

According to representatives of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), if the energy department was at fault, the families would receive compensation.
