Digital Desk : Preparations for Magh Mela, 2022 is on full swing even as the country witnesses a surge in Covid cases triggered by the Omicron variant.

Magh Mela, 2022 will begin from January 14 with the holy bathing of Makar Sankranti. Considering the prevailing Covid situation and a rapid surge in cases witnessed in the last few days, the authorities at the Mela have decided to conduct the bathing ceremony on a smaller scale this time to minimize possible spread of coronavirus.

The Magh Mela, 2022 will though be no-less than a big fun fare as the Prayagraj Mela Authority (PMA) is determined to ensure all seers, devotees and pilgrims get the best of the facilities.

High-ranked officials have been entrusted responsibilities to look after the preparation and management of the Magh Mela with an IAS official – Sheshmani Pandey, being made the Mela Adhikari.

The Mela management members have also incorporated SDM ranked officials to look after the management of the religious fair.

The Magh Mela, 2022 is expected to be arranged on the lines of Kumbh and Mahakumbh, sources quotes. Not forgetting the Covid situation, the management is planning to ensure a safe fair this year, with all Covid protocols in place.

Recalling the situation in Kolkata, where more than 90 revelers were arrested during Christmas celebrations, one should be mindful of such large gatherings that can harness a huge covid outbreak like its previous scenario during the Kumbh Mela.

Conducting a fair or celebrations where a huge crowd is expected, will eventually lead to the pinnacle of the Covid cases zooming past the growth graph. One shouldn’t shun this idea that the Magh Mela can be a ticking time bomb for Covid outbreak like one witnessed during Kumbh Mela.
