Digital Desk: After days of back-and-forth between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Centre over his Singapore visit, the AAP's national convenor has decided not to go.
The Delhi government has issued a formal statement condemning the incident and blaming the central government. Kejriwal has been invited to attend the World Cities Summit, which will be held in Singapore in the first week of August. The formal statement stated that the formalities for the Singapore visit were to be completed by July 20, with the file being returned to the Lieutenant Governor on July 21.
According to AAP, because it took so long to obtain the necessary permission from LG and the Center, there was no time left to complete the remaining formalities.
The Delhi government blamed the delay on the Centre in a statement. "If Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is unable to attend the World City Summit in Singapore and, as a result, the country and Delhi must be humiliated, then only the central government is to blame," the statement said.
The statement went on to say, "On June 7, the file requesting permission for the Chief Minister's visit was delivered to the Lieutenant Governor (LG). The LG remained silent for about a month and a half before returning the file on July 21. Not only had there been a significant delay by that point, but the deadline of July 20 to complete the travel formalities had also passed.
According to central government sources, Singapore has withdrawn Arvind Kejriwal's invitation to the World Cities Summit. According to the centre, an email revealed that the invitation had been cancelled.

The centre also claimed that Kejriwal requested permission to visit Singapore from the Ministry of External Affairs on July 21, a day after the Singapore deadline had passed. The Centre claimed that Kejriwal's actions were merely a publicity stunt.
