Digital Desk: On Monday, the Dibrugarh District unit of All Assam Students Union's (AASU) has started a 30-hour long hunger protest in Duliajan in the morning.

For the last few days, AASU protests continued at several places against the police role in its clash with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over a college union election in Dibrugarh.

One protestor stated, " We are here to protest against the government and police officials. Our youths were taken into custody by police officials. They were humiliated and were said immoral terms related to their sisters and parents, and such treatment with youths will not be tolerated. We want the government to take strict action against the police officials involved in the incident."

On Saturday, the student union alleged that police authority had forcefully entered the AASU office in Dibrugarh.

Aboni Gogoi, general secretary of the Dibrugarh district AASU unit, said that Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra sent the police force to their office on Saturday. He added that their members were forcefully picked up from the office, and they have behaved badly with the youths in the police station.

A two-day conference of the Superintendents of Police of the State has been organized at the oil town Duliajan from today. The DIG, IGPs and other senior police officials are present at the conference, including sub-divisional police officials.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken up several measures to rejuvenate the hanging image of civil and police administration and had formed Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police conferences in different places of the State to invigorate both the administrations so that general people could get all forms of help from the law-enforcing authorities.

ASSU has staged a protest against the SP conference in the town. All Kamrup (metro) District Students' Union president Rajmil Ali and general secretary Tutumoni Kalita made remarks on the protest earlier.

They said, "Police atrocities executed under political pressure will not be tolerated. The people of Assam have strong sentiments towards the Swahid Bhavan. It is sacred for us. The AASU will never give into such domination."
