A police complaint was filed against him after several of his clients, including contractors and businesses, noticed anomalies or mismatches in their GST accounts despite paying all liable fees to Saha.

Digital Desk: Debasish Saha, who has been absconding since mid of March, was apprehended by police at Sonapur in Kamrup (M) district on Thursday. Saha, a resident of Haflong in Dima Hasao, was running a GST consulting firm under the name 'SD Associates' in Haflong town. Over 100 clients are under his consultancy.

A police complaint was filed against him after several of his clients, including contractors and businesses, noticed anomalies or mismatches in their GST accounts despite paying all liable fees to Saha.

Police detained him in early March after Saha's clients forced the police to intervene. However, he was later let go after he assured his clients of clearing all the anomalies. A few days later, he and his family eloped the town in response to which the clients filed a police complaint at Haflong police station on 5th March last.

Saha has been booked at Haflong P.S, case no. 21/22 under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Codes.
Dima Hasao Addl. SP Indranil Barua said Saha was apprehended at Sonapur toll plaza after his phone location was traced with the help of Guwahati counterparts. "Altogether, Saha scammed over Rs. Sixteen crores from the clients." Additional SP Barua said.

Saha will be produced before the judicial court on Friday in the Dima Hasao district.
