Admiring the role played by the Meghalaya Red Cross Society during the Covid 19- pandemic, he urged the people of the State to come forward and take advantage of the organization's training programmes to prepare themselves for tackling any hazard and natural disaster.


Digital Desk: The deferred observance of World Red Cross Day on the theme "Be Humankind" was today held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, wherein Meghalaya Governor Shri. Satya Pal Malik, the President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.


Addressing the occasion, the Governor said that the Red Cross is one of the oldest humanitarian organizations whose dedicated service has benefited millions. While appreciating the services rendered by the Red Cross Society, the Governor stressed the need to imbibe the spirit of serving fellow human beings and assisting the Red Cross in its services. He inspired the crowd to rededicate their pledge to extend their cooperation and support to the Red Cross in its journey to serve mankind. 


Praising the role played by the Meghalaya Red Cross Society during the Covid- 19 pandemic, he implored the people of the State to come forward and take benefit of the training programmes of the organization to prepare themselves for tackling any hazard and natural disaster.


Earlier, the Governor released the Red Cross Flag and distributed certificates to new Life Members of the Red Cross Society of the State.


World Red Cross Day, also known as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, is annually observed on May 8 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swiss businessman Henri Dunant. His efforts led to the creation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, adoption of Geneva conventions and creation of the iconic Red Cross symbol.
