Digital Desk: In light of the discovery of the fourth case of the virus in the nation, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is holding a high-level review conference on the monkeypox sickness, according to a statement released on Sunday by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Delhi announced its first incidence of the zoonotic infection earlier in the day after a 31-year-old man who had no known history of travelling abroad tested positive for the virus. The west Delhi resident is receiving care at the publicly funded LNJP hospital.

The Union Health Ministry stated in a statement, "A 34-year-old male Delhi resident was quarantined at Lok Nayak Hospital due to a possible monkeypox infection. The Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) has verified the diagnosis."

The patient is currently recovering at a Lok Nayak Hospital isolation facility, and the identified close contacts of the patient are being quarantined in accordance with MoHFW protocols.

The ministry added, "Further public health initiatives are being carried out, such as identification of the source of infection, better contact tracing, testing sensitization of private practitioners, etc."

All three of the initial cases of the virus were found in Kerala in July.

With cases being documented in more than 70 countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued its highest alert for the virus and described the outbreak as a public health emergency of global significance.
