The UK, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Syria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Cameroon, and Seychelles are among the nine nations represented by the 29 international students currently enrolled at IIT-Guwahati.
Digital Desk: During the pandemic years, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) made significant progress by completing joint PhDs with Heidelberg University in Germany, Curtin University in Australia, the National Institute of Material Science (NIMS) in Japan, and Shantou University in China.
IIT-Guwahati currently has 29 international students from nine countries enrolled: the United Kingdom, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Syria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Cameroon, and Seychelles.
A student enrolled in the Joint Degree PhD Programme (JDP) who earns a PhD from both IIT Guwahati and a partner institution abroad must spend at least 12 months at each institution throughout the programme.
As the campus buzz has returned following the deadly waves of the Covid pandemic in the nation, the institute has extended an invitation to more foreign students for admission in courses across all disciplines of engineering, sciences, humanities and social sciences, design, healthcare and medicine, management, and interdisciplinary areas.
According to IIT-G director Prof. TG Sitharam, "IIT Guwahati will gain a strong foothold among higher education institutions worldwide as a result of the education sector's rapid internationalisation, and it can actively participate in addressing challenges related to global issues. On the other hand, students will benefit from receiving the top-notch education we provide here at IIT Guwahati and the chance to conduct research in a top-notch setting."
