New Delhi: Following the Diwali celebrations, for the third successive day the air quality in New Delhi continues to remain within the ‘severe’ category. The latest air quality index (AQI) stands at 433. This was revealed in the data by the government run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

Meanwhile, SAFAR also suggests that the quality of air is likely to improve from Monday. It will improve to the upper end of the very poor category by Sunday and further in the next two days.

A report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) suggests that the particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air is the major source of the pollution.

However, it also says that the quality will improve further, although it will continue to remain in very poor category until Tuesday.

In view of reducing the level of pollution and dust in the air, the Government of Delhi has deployed around 114 water tankers to spray water across the city.

The government banned the bursting of fire crackers in Delhi this Diwali, however people still continued to bust them which contributed to the air pollution.
