Digital Desk: On Wednesday, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court issued notices to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and other participants on a petition filed by Dr Ambedkar Sanskrutik Bhavan Parisar Bachav Kruti Samiti seeking permission to celebrate the birth anniversary of Father of the Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Ambazari Garden.

A division bench of justices Atul Chandurkar and Mahendra Chandwani instructed the respondents to file a response by Thursday.

As stated by Samiti president Kishor Gabjhiye, the site at Ambazari was set aside in 1970 for a Dr. Ambedkar memorial. The NMC built a cultural centre there in 1976. Despite strong public protest, it was razed in June 2021.

The petitioner has requested permission to commemorate Dr. Ambedkar's birthday on April 13, 14, and 15, at the Ambazari Garden, where the cultural centre was formerly housed.

Every year, the samiti held peacefully organised celebrations. The collector, on the other hand, stated that the territory was awarded to Garuda Amusement Park Private Limited via a tender by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). MTDC refused to hear the petitioner's appeal, prompting the samiti to go to the High Court.
