Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to conduct a prominent roadshow in Guwahati tomorrow, marking a significant escalation in campaigning as Assam approaches the third and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The high-profile event underscores the importance both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies place on securing seats in the northeastern state.
This crucial phase will see voters in four key constituencies—Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Dhubri—cast their ballots. A total of 47 candidates are in the fray across these seats, vying for public mandate. Political parties and their leaders are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters, with rallies and public engagements reaching their peak.
Among the prominent figures actively campaigning are Assam Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal, State Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah, Asom Gana Parishad President Atul Bora, and Bodoland People’s Front chief Hagrama Mohilary. Their vigorous canvassing highlights the competitive nature of these elections.
The Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, in particular, has garnered considerable attention, featuring a direct contest between prominent women candidates from both the BJP and the Congress. The BJP has nominated party leader Bijuli Kalita Medhi, opting for a new face over incumbent MP Queen Oja. Meanwhile, the Congress has fielded Mira Borthakur Goswami, who previously held affiliation with the BJP, setting the stage for a compelling electoral battle in the state capital.
