Mumbai: Maharashtra government extended curfew in Amravati city to four towns. The extension order came after local BJP leaders staged a protest throughout a bandh.
Amravati city on Friday reported several occurrences of stone-pelting. As a result, the police arrested a total of 50 people.
The situation in Amravati remained under control on Sunday. The deploy of eight battalions of the SRPF (State Reserve Police Force), and an added number of police personnel from different districts brought situation under control, stated district guardian minister Yashomati Thakur.
The government imposed on Saturday in Amravati city in east Maharashtra for four days. Government banned internet services after a mob who threw stones at shops during a bandh.

Allegedly, local BJP workers formed the mob in protest against the demonstrations organized by minority organisations to condemn the recent violence in Tripura, said a police official.
Meantime, stone-pelting took place during demonstrations carried out by minority organizations on Friday in Amravati, Nanded, Malegaon (in Nashik district), Washim and Yavatmal.
Police detained a total of eight BJP activists in Warud and Shendurjanaghat villages for raising slogans. Now, government extended the curfew to include Morshi, Warud, Achalpur, and Anjangaon Surji towns.
